Levels of stupidity

03-07-2008

There are certain things in this world that are just stupid, actions and acts that are so stupid you should know before suggesting them not to suggest them because they are that stupid. One such event happened in work today.

We have two guys visiting from our offices in India and one of them has an email issue. He can receive emails no problem but can't send them at all, from anything, even his gmail (which is odd in itself). But his inbox both in gmail and work email is working fine. So he gets onto our global tech support guy to see what the hell the problem is. To do this he used an internal tool we have that allows you to submit a ticket which should then be fixed. In the ticket you list your problem, when it started, and any other information you think might help get the ticket resolved.

He received an email later in the day saying he had to send an email with out from his computer.

To me, that was one of those stupid things you don't say. I mean the guy has just told you that his email will not send out an email and yet you still go and ask him to send an email with further details. No, of course, you could assume that he uses another person's email to send this information, but the guy on the other end of the ticket doesn't know where in the world you are based. You could work from home at the top of a mountain, the nearest person with an email could be miles away. It just struck me as the support guy being dumb.

I also had a dumb moment, as Mr. Tea pointed out, yesterday. There is a typo in my post. But it does make for an interesting wonderment about what that sentence could mean if I meant to use the world that I accidentally used.

Ah the Internet, a world of critics and nameless criticisms. Who would want to be without it.
