Viva la Neptune

11-10-2008

The club was crowded last night and it was great to see. A little bit of rain, the fact that the world is so expensive these days to do anything in, a bunch of people that had nothing better to do and Neptune ends up having one of it's best nights in a long time. It wasn't nearly as packed with people as it was back when I first started going to it to catch some acts, but it wasn't far off.

More to the point the people there were there for the comedy, not for their friends. I usually bring a crowd of people to my gigs which makes it look like a rent-a-crowd (it is, I suck and need the support) but last night there was only one act that had support there and even then it was only four people.

A room of thirty strangers enjoying some cheap entertainment. Truth be told the line up was a little weak. One good act in the opening section and then the support and headliner (both of whom I have seen a dozen times) were great. The others died on their arses, but hell if that isn't the thrill of comedy then I don't know what is.

It was great to see the crowd though, because for a long while now I have been thinking that the guy that runs the club might close it down due to falling numbers. Here's hoping that it was a summer thing and that once the winter sets in again the numbers will stay as strong.

In other news I have figured out a way of helping work and my hobbies balance. A lot of my job involves running tests that will take a few minutes to complete, some of them even take half an hour. Since I bring the laptop in with me every day anyway I started (or will start properly next week since I only did it on Friday this week) to write a few words into my stories while I wait for results to come in. That way it is not dead time that I spend reading through the mountains of emails that I get each day or just surfing the web. Plus I can claim to get paid for my writing then as well, even if I am doing it on company time.
