To the poor teachers.

A lot of discussion in the papers lately over pay cuts in Ireland has been met with heavy resistance from the unions. One such union, well two or three depending on how you count it, is the teachers of the country. Teachers are not the most favored profession in the land, mainly because of the vast levels of strokes they get to pull due to the unions they have.

Add to that the complaining 60% (that's right, I am assuming at least 40% of them don't complain about how good they have it) saying that they deserve more money because of the wages in the private sector.

Funnily enough, I happen to work in the private sector and have no earthly idea where the teachers are getting their figures from. My wages before tax are less than a teacher just starting out after tax. That is a big, big difference to start.

Plus there is this article.

A friend of my currently in training has cited the under payment of the teachers time and again. Guess you will need to find a new argument.

Honestly, if all the teachers took a ten percent pay reduction during these troubled times it would help out their own profession. That money could be diverted back into schools, maybe hire some new teachers to help cut down on class size, and they would still be coming out with sizeable salaries at the end of the day.

The next teacher I hear complaining about being underpaid is liable to be killed on the spot by the vein in my head exploding.
