he break in

23-01-2009

So, got home last night after being told via the magic of text messages that the alarm in the apartment was going off. I didn't think anything of it because it had been going off the night before as well. As I went to put the key in the lock of the front door I noticed something very strange.
There was no lock on the front door.

Some bastards had drilled the damn thing off and busted it entirely. The door was unlocked. Of course straight away I have images of everything I own either smashed or gone.

Out with the phone, ring the garda, and barge into the apartment.

Nothing was touch. Not a single thing. The alarm was turned off because the buzzing was getting annoying. But the place was untouched. Almost like they didn't bother coming in.

I rang the landlord to let him know and also rang H to try and put a nice spin on a bad situation. But overall we were very lucky, since only the other day we both had spoken about the need to get content insurance for our stuff.

We now have said insurance, since Gods don't give mortals a second chance all that often.

So now the door has been fitted with a new lock and a second heavy duty bastard and a latch. If I forget my keys I can see this being a problem.

But the brazen bastards. This happened between the hours of five and seven in the evening. In an apartment block that has massive windows on either side of the stairwell so that you can clearly see the street. They just showed up, sat down, and got to work.

The worst of it all, the doors into the apartment block were not forced in any way. Site security is trying to pin it on us for leaving the doors open, but myself and H are always sure that the door is locked behind us when we leave the building.

It isn't a nice feeling knowing that somebody could have been in your home, looking at your porn collection without permission.

Not nice at all.
