A Personal Post

25-04-2009

Right, everyone knows the usual rules but I am damned if I am not posting about this. It is something personal so you just have to deal with it.

As noted a couple of times a friend of mine passed away during my first year in college and his rememberance event that we all attend happened a few weeks ago. I was asked my some of the college lads to just write up a little note that we would leave on the grave with a potted plant, just to say hello to our old friend.

I had planned on never displaying it outside our circle, but after an email I received today I figure I will share this with anybody that reads the site.

This is what I came up with:

Hey Paul,

Just a little note letting you know that even after seven years you are still in our thoughts. In fact since that day, all those years ago, the entire college gang makes a special effort to get together at this time of year and have a little celebration in your honour. Family events get missed and significant others ditched so that as many of us as possible remember you and tell all the stupid stories that we all remember about you. Even though some of us don't even live in the country any more, they send their thoughts along on the day, emailing those of us still here to let us know how much you meant to everyone.

Despite the short time that we all had getting to know each other, you made a big impact on a group of people and this is just our way of letting you know that seven years on you are still a big part of our thoughts.

After all this time you are far, far, from forgotten. Always in our hearts and our minds and the stories that we tell over and over.

From all the lads at NUI Maynooth.

The reason I am displaying the note is because Paul's mum texted one of the college lot to let us know how much the note meant to her. So much so that she is going to get it made into a plaque for his grave.

It's nice to know that something we did made something really rotten a little easier for somebody to handle.

Anyway, usual rants and bitching will return in the next post.
