Why Do I Blog?

Or, to be precise, rant.

It was a question asked to me recently and I have had the rant floating around in my head since then. I was actually asked something along the lines of "what is the fun of blogging for you" and honestly I think it is a good question.

There are a number of blogs out there on the Internet these days.

You have the ones that are pure tech head blogs, articles about everything and anything so long as a gadget is mentioned in it.

You have the artist blogs, where paintings and photos are displayed with very little text to them.

You have the pure moaning blogs, sort of like what some of the early stuff on this site was about.

Some of the blogs I follow are a mix of all the above. Being a self admitted geek I have a tendency to read a few webcomics and by extension the blogs of the artists of those comics.

But why do I blog? For fun.

At heart I am a story teller, a person that likes to try and entertain those around me. If I am not trying my hand at comedy I am coming up with a story to write or a picture to draw. I don't drink (not sure if I ever pointed that out on the site before) and over the years have just developed a personality that doesn't need drink to try and get others to like him.

Operative word there being "try" of course.

But I blog for the freedom it gives me. I can express my views on anything, anybody without needing the approval of somebody before it goes into print. I can rant and rave about how stupid I find Noel Dempsey one day and then point out something I think is funky on a computer the next. The Bauble has always been a labor of love rather than a cutting edge site. It gets new features when I want, not when needed, it gets visual changes when I want. It is home to some of the inner workings of my mind. I have never been a "Dear Journal" sort of person, but I like putting these rants up online for people to read. Most of my conversations these days start with the words "I saw on your site...".

It helps keep people in the loop, more so these days with life getting totally out of control and work becoming an all consuming factor.

Mainly I blog because I enjoy it. I was one of the last people I knew to get a bebo account, similar to facebook and even again with twitter. Those ideas are fine, but they require that everyone you know has those sites as well. With The Bauble you don't need to sign up to anything to enjoy/hate it. You can just drop in, read a bit, and feck off without any hassle.

I blog/rant on this because it is easy. Both for me to do and for others to use. I am all about things in life being easy, it just makes the world work a lot smoother.
