Anyway...

I am just back from the NCT centre with my car, now the proud owner of an NCT cert that won't expire until 2011. This is a big deal for me because I have been driving for a little over three years now and as anybody will tell you my car history has been a little on the shady side of things. Mostly because none of them have had an NCT ever.

Then along comes Dickhead Dempsy (or to give him his proper name Minister for Stupidly Bad Haircuts and Ridiculous Policy) with his "You get more points for not having an NCT than you do for knocking somebody down because the country isn't selling cars anymore and we want to scare people into buying new ones".

It may not have been officially called that, but it was close enough.

Anyway off I went today to get the car tested and entered the den with no hope of passing at all.

Which was not all that far from the truth, but not because the car was in a real bad way. It was because the NCT crowd are apparently big lovers of sticking to rules. For a stupid, stupid reason. I mean honestly, why they failed the car was beyond me because it will bring the statistics down.

The car failed because the passenger side break light was blown.

That was it.

End of.

Nothing else was even near wrong in it. I looked at the report that they gave me after the test. All the figures were well within norms. None of it was even close to being bad. So the entire reason the car failed the test was because the bulb had blown.

They could have just told me to go and get a bulb and gave me the cert. Instead they decided to waste more of my time by having me drive over to the shop, buy a bulb, put the bulb in and drive back for them to see the bulb was sorted. I mean really, is there any need for that level of rule sticking?

But anyway, the moral of the story is that I have now got a fully NCT'd car. The Jester Mobile is 100% road legal.

So all that is left now is for Dempsy to come up with the next thing to irritate the shit out of me. I am guessing it will be a million points if your car has four wheels.
