I swear to God I have a problem, I really do. My first proper day off work in many, many, months and I spent it patching up my laptop.

See I had this stupid idea to update my Linux last night. I was running a version of Mandriva that was two years out of date (officially, all the important parts were up to date) and figured I would go and do an upgrade to the latest version of the OS.

All my home folder stuff was fine, but I ended up nuking my apache and mysql stuff along with various other odds and ends. Plus I encountered that hilarious little trick that I usually manage to pull off of installing two Grubs onto the harddrive, so that one grub can load up another grub which can load up an operating system.

Lucky for me, I learned my lesson the last time I had to install the laptop. I had battled with getting my Opensolaris grub and Mandriva grub to be the same grub and I wrote down the magic incantation on The Bauble. Sure it is the most logical place to keep things. So that was one battle that was over and done with quickly.

But yes, I then went and spent most of my first day off in months installing all the programs I usually use, plugging all the cracks that I usually plug and putting in all my custom scripts back into place so that I had the system back up the way I am used to.

Only new and shiny.

A tech head holiday...it's a disgrace. We never stop tinkering with computers.

Plans for the rest of the week...get cracking on the Christmas shopping. Can't be doing a Christmas Eve battle-shop again.

The last one wasn't pretty.
