Snow Wonder

09-01-2010

Last year I ranted about being stuck in a sudden snow storm that made my usual hour-long commute that little bit longer and more fun (or dangerous depending on your view). That had been the first time in many years that I can remember snow actually being in Dublin. I mean I am talking at the very least ten years since the last decent snow (none of this few flakes around January shite and then nothing. That's just an ecological striptease).

Of course snow brings on a host of problems. Traffic chaos, danger on the paths, all that sorta stuff.

Well it is snowing again in Dublin (two years on the trot, Mother Nature you saucy minx) and the fun times are here to stay. Well some definitions of fun that is.

The other day as I walked home from work I slipped on the ice and think I sprained my thumb/wrist. As one of my good college mates said "Sure you have a long way to fall compared to the rest of us." The thumb isn't too bad today so nothing serious. Of course I haven't driven since my last rant were I talked about the fun I had on the dart. The main reason being when I went out to the car yesterday it was frozen solid. No doors opening at all no matter how much I pulled on the handles. I didn't have time to go and defrost my car (besides that is something exclusive to the realm of chickens and other such meat used in cooking) so I left it to freeze a little more.

Now, as I type this, it is snowing again. It looks great I am not going to argue this point. The white, the buildings, the plants. All the bitching people are doing about how cold it is and how dangerous the paths are, while valid, you should just stop for a second and enjoy the "moment" of beauty that is floating about. Yes it's a crapfest in a bucket of shit and making life a little tricky, but it looks really nice. No?

Besides come summer time you all will complain it is too hot.

But of course this wouldn't be a true rant if I didn't give off about something. Apparently my favourite Minister in the Government, the man in charge of things like the roads and road safety and making sure the roads are safe. Ladies and gentlemen the gobshite without a clue: Noel Dempsey. He can't be reached during this troubling traffic time. Christmas holidays are over, the world and his wife are back at work, and anytime a person rings Noel Dempsey it goes straight to voicemail. I think I love that man so much. I can't remember a Minister who has caused so much hassle when there was no need and then disappeared at the first sign of a situation were he is both needed and expected. Useless does not begin to describe how inept that man is. Brain dead might, but I wouldn't want to risk offending any comatose patients that read the site.

Anybody for a revolution?

With the ice, it might be easier for us to spin on the spot.

(See what I did there?)
