The Night Before Paddy's

10-02-2010

Just got my comedy contest date with Comedy Dublin for their 2010 competition. I am going to be on March 16th (it's a Tuesday) which means I will be performing in Sheehan's.

I will pop up a map/reminder closer to the date of the gig for those folks that don't know where they are going in Dublin City.

This date works out really well for me. I had only started to practice the new set this week for fear that I was going to be on stage next Tuesday. During the floor pacing and joke reciting I found that I went over my seven minutes (your set can't be longer than seven minutes and a few seconds), bits were just not funny (bits mind you, not the entire thing before somebody suggests that) and that as I went through some sections I ad-libbed some material in that was better than what I had written down.

Now I have over a month to hone and refine the material to make sure it is as good as it can be before the gig. This is good news. With the way work has been lately and the super busy side of having a social life still in full swing, time was not on my side.

Then again, when is it ever.

Plus the 16th of March is a great night for me to have the gig. Since the contest is part-judging panel part-audience voting I would like to get a crowd of folks to come into it. If Paddy's Day is the next day it means nobody will be up for work so that those that live a bit of a trip away can also come in.

The more the merrier, not to mention more votes for me.

Although one or two people have already been mean bastards and said they wouldn't vote for me at all.

Oh my revenge shall be swift and painful.

L: I am starting to think you will never come to my comedy gigs. You always have an excuse (mucho congrates on the job though lol).

Shortie: Why do you hurt me so bad????

Comedians have to learn to handle heckling in order to survive the cut throat work of comedy competitions. I am simply helping out

I do always seem to have an excuse, but at least they're valid ones. I would love to come to one of your gigs, but have to get the timing right x
