Comedy Change

17-02-2010

Went into the first round of the comedy contest last night to see what the other contestants were like. Some good acts up on stage, including one American who had the most mismatched voice and body I have ever witnessed.

Overall it looks like it will be an interesting contest this year. I got talking with some of the Comedy Dublin folks and apparently there are fifty-six acts in it, with seven acts on each heat. That's two more people per heat than the first year I entered the contest. Looks like Dublin is brimming with new comics, which was something I did notice last night since I barely knew any of the acts floating around.

Then again that is on me in a large way, since I haven't had a gig in a while and haven't been going hard at getting gigs either. Stupid work and life, never leaves enough time to do other things.

Two things happened last night though. My original heat, which was meant to the be 16th of March, has had to be pushed back to April 13th. It's still a Tuesday but just a few weeks later than planned. The original date was slightly on the perfect side, since anybody coming to the gig would be off the next day so I could probably get a big crowd to come along, but sure what can you do. On the upside I have a gig on Feb 28th now, to practice my new routine at. So overall the new situation works out rather well. I can try out the new material weeks before the contest date and fix up bits and bobs after some live audience feedback.

I am going to try and get more gigs as well. I have a handful of contact numbers that I can get gigs from and some other comics have passed on info about other venues that are good for getting gigs at. I doubt I will be doing a crazy amount of comedy but it would be nice to try and get two or three gigs a month.

Ah to be a millionaire so I could just lounge about doing this sort of thing full time.

In other news I had brinner yesterday (that's breakfast at dinner for those non-Scrubs fans reading this) and it was good. Five jestercakes made to perfection, I can feel my heart clogging as we speak. Good thing I have that medical coming up with work, just to see how much damage I have inflicted on myself since my last visit to a doctor.

Which is coming up on two years now. Who says you need some man in white coats telling you how healthy you are.

If it isn't falling off, it's fine.
