Logic Driving

08-03-2010

This is a concept I first heard about in Italy when I was on holidays there, about five years ago. Maybe six. Who knows for sure.

Anyway, the point is that logic driving is something that I think should be introduced into Ireland. But in a slightly different form.

See, in Italy the way it works is the lights are somewhat optional. If the light is red you can stop, but if nothing is coming and you can get across safely you can break the light and you are not in the wrong.

This of course does cause some issues with people breaking lights because they think their Micra can travel at the speed of light during rush hour, but the principal is sound enough.

Then again if you ever see a car crash in Italy it is worth standing around for the spectacle that takes place between the drivers involved. Epic street acting at its best.

I reckon that this sort of logic driving wouldn't really work all that well here, so this isn't the sort I am proposing. I reckon that the logic driving here should mean I can smash my car into every moron on the road that logically deserves it.

Like the asshole that decides he is going to cross the road in front of my car, but rather than run he saunters. Then gives me the fingers when I A) give him a friendly reminder with a beep of my horn that I will drive over him and B) nearly drive over him because I don't slow down. Logically that person should be culled from the herd, to prevent his offspring from taking on the same habit.

Or the moron that thinks the 30 K.P.H applies to the entire county of Dublin, not just 90% of the city. These morons appear to be a new breed of driver that has cropped up in the last few weeks. Driving at 30 throughout the city? Fine, I will let you away with that because it is tricky at best to figure out which roads the limit doesn't apply to. Driving at 30 down the N4 which has a speed limit of 80 K.P.H.? I should logically be allowed to smash my front bumper into your rear one to make you move faster.

People like that shouldn't be on the road.

Or my personal favorite these days (aside from bastards that don't indicate on roundabouts but we would be here all day if I got started on them again) is the person that has to come to a near-complete-stop to make a turn around a corner.

You're driving a car, not an articulated truck towing a carriage full of elephants that is balanced on a unicycle. A car. If you come to a corner and need to turn you should be able to do it in fifteen seconds or less or not be on the road. Simple as that. Learner drivers I will make an exception for, because we all had to start somewhere, but if you don't have those plates up you are just putting your name down on my list of drivers I want to kill.

Just to make sure I cover all the groups the last on the list are cyclists that break red lights. After my encounter with that twat at Christmas I have been noticing more and more of these red light breakers. Logic driving would dictate that I can knock you off your bike with a gentle tap of my car if you break a red light.

Which wouldn't be so bad if it happened in the city since apparently the cyclists all say that the 30 K.P.H. speed limit is safer for them when they get hit by cars.

Who knew. It could even become an Olympic sport.

I agree with you but do admit to breaking red lights when I'm cycling at times. Not when it is unsafe to do so and not when people are crossing. This would generally be at 3am in the morning cycling home and nobody other than idiot taxi drivers are around. I always check to make sure you're not there to pull me upon it though!

Ah I will let you away with it at 3 in the morning, but during normal driving hours I would crush you into the pavement. So watch out for any 01 Megane's ;)

myself n gary nearly rear ended a guinness truck doing 50 on the m1 on our way to dundalk, not the worst way to go but i'd rather just drink the stuff! happened twice on the way home. seems logic driving only applies to countries with logically minded populations. so not here!
