End Of The Season

18-07-2011

Yesterday marked the end of Wedding Season for myself and the lady friend. I tweeted at the start of wedding number three that I was going down the route of 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' and somebody said not to jinx it. Oddly enough I did manage to jinx it, as I did manage to have a funeral in there. With The Boss passing away and yesterday now in the past we really did have four weddings and a funeral.

Yesterday's wedding was a little different though, a little something special. It was the wedding of the mother-figure for the Jester. Marrying possibly the craziest Welsh man in the world.

It isn't every day that you get to attend the wedding of a parental unit. In fact if things are done in the correct chronological order, you never get to attend the wedding of your parents, either of them. You might be at a renewal of vows sort of thing, but never the original.

As weddings went it was pretty spectacular. Aside from the weather that is. But then an Irish summer can always be counted on to have one thing: a depressing lack of sunshine, particularly at the weekend.

The mammy and the welsh man had asked for myself and my siblings to be involved in the wedding. Meaning grooms party and bridesmaid duties. So of all the days to not need a migraine, yesterday was it. Of course God likes to test me it seems and when I woke up an hour before my alarm was meant to go off the pounding in my brain was a good indication of what had woken me.

Challenge accepted, I said. I popped pills. Had a hot shower to loosen neck muscles. Rubbed muscle relaxant cream into my neck. The lady friend made me the biggest breakfast I have ever eaten. It even included sugary pastries to help get the blood sugar levels up. End result I had the migraine dulled to a headache by the time we got to the church.

In your omnipresent face big man.

The ceremony was the usual deal. Lovely and religious. The reception was a jam packed fun fest. The craic was through the roof. Having a laugh with my siblings. Chatting with relatives. Catching up with old family friends. Assisting and avoiding one of my mates who was doing the official photography for the whole day. I even danced, something that is beyond a rare occurrence as the lady friend will attest to. Although she got some dancing from me, so she can't complain too much ;).

I am not going to go into a huge rambling detail about the entire day, it would be a website in itself, but bottom line was it was fantastic. Plus it was great to see the mammy so happy after so much unhappiness in her life.

So raise a virtual glass with me if you would and toast the newly weds: To many years of wedded bliss.
