No Such Thing

21-02-2012

There is a phrase that says "There is no such thing as bad publicity". I reckon that in this day and age of Internet and Youtube and phones with video cameras built into them that phrase might need to be updated.

This video would be a good example of why that phrase may need to be updated: Exhibit A

One guy out and about walking in the town of Bath spotted some amazing parking and decided to video the traffic building up around it. The owner of the car, local business woman Sarah Duncan, spotted him and decided to confront him about it. Apparently Freedom of Speech is something she hasn't heard about and while she had a right to be annoyed that he was filming her and her car she started to just shout that it was illegal, which it kinda technically isn't.

Filming her in the nip through her bedroom window, yes illegal.

Filming her walking down a public street, not so much.

But alas this weekend class she had taken in the Laws of England was still clear in her mind and she decided to just keep shouting at him that it was illegal. More to the point she started to threaten him with the police and then follow him to wherever he was going because she wanted to take it further.

She even goes to far as to try and grab his phone. Which would have been illegal, but I think they skipped that part in her class.

Even her husband gets in on the fun and starts poking/pushing the person with the phone, again an element of law that her weekend class missed out on.

My favorite bit of the entire video is, as the video is still running, after he has told her he will stop recording if she just goes away, after he tells her that he is still recording her and if her husband doesn't stop he will call the police and say that he was assaulted, after all that magical stuff happens she then says she will tell the police that he (the man with the phone) assaulted her. Despite the video camera recording her saying it!

The net result? Well if you do a Google search for 'Sarah Duncan Knitwear' your first few hits are not about her business. They aren't even about happy customers. They are links to this video or articles about it.

Meaning that purely by being an idiot who thought she was in the right she has in fact done more damage to herself.

Probably won't help that The Bauble has a high Google Rank either. Ah well, every little (doesn't) helps! :)
