Stupid Things I Do For Fun

06-03-2012

Sometimes people do stupid things, that is a well known fact of life. It can't be helped. One second everything is going fine, the next the idiot gene kicks in and the world goes crazy.

Others intentionally do stupid things, for fun. If I had the time I would code up a shocked emoticon for this rant. But I don't, so I shan't, but trust me it would be appropriate. More so because I seem to fall into the bracket, most of the time, of the person that does something stupid for fun.

Like at the weekend I, along with the lady friend and some other mates, entered into Runamuck. A 5K (although apparently it was 5.7 according to one of the officials) "fun" run. The "fun" being that it was over muddy fields, into ditches of freezing cold water, climbing up cargo nets in order to slide down into more ditches, crawling under nets again in the water. Basically a run that no crow would have flown. But we all did it and even paid for the privilege (well it was for charity I suppose). What makes this even more hilarious is that out of the six of us that went, only two do any regular training. Myself? I haven't done any real activities in the last year (not counting the mountain climb I did) so I would consider myself out of shape. My finish time of fifty-six minutes wasn't record breaking, but it was impressive enough for me. I figured I would have been well over the hour mark.

As if that wasn't enough stupidity to be doing for "fun" I am also after signing up for the Concern Abseil in Lansdowne Stadium (I still ain't budging on that). It's a fundraiser for the only charity in Ireland that I agree with, primarily because the funds they raise go to the people they say they go to. The charity itself has people that fund the operations of the organisation, so unlike some of the other "charities" in the country you know that most of that euro or two you had to it is going to the right people. As oppose to paying for, oh I don't know, the private jet that gets used to travel to meetings.

You know who you are!

So, like any fundraising gig, this one requires donations. I've gotten them to set up a page for me so if you have a few shillings to spare and a bit of time would you be so good as to go to the following link and donate. There is a target to reach, which if I don't I will just hand over the cash myself, but every little helps the people. The right ones in this case :)
