People generally laugh when I tell them that what I do for work on a daily basis is automate everything I do on a daily basis so I have less work to do. This is an inherent task that any Dev Op/SRE guy worth his salt will do. The phrase 'If you can do it exactly the same way manually two times in a row automate that shit!' is something of a Creed amongst tech heads.

Basically it means we are a lazy shower of bastards and spend most of our time working on the non-important stuff because we are safe in the knowledge that a script somewhere is doing our job.

Or not....but that is another person's problem ;)

This is something that has transferred into my home-tech life as well. From the get go The Bauble has mainly been an excuse for me to keep trying out new code in a project I actually care about. Add in a Twitter feed or pull images from Instagram. You know things that nobody else actually will give a crap about. But while the code for it and other sites I look after has also been kept up to date with feature-creep, the content never has.

Mainly because I am one lazy mother at the end of the day and having to log into two separate locations seemed to be some mental block for me :D

Well over the weekend that all changed. I decided that since I finally got a book written and out there in the real world I should start to rant/blog again. Particularly on my writing website. But I didn't want to just abandon The Bauble to the digital wastelands because, let's face it, it's been around for eight years at this stage. So using the Dev Ops laziness I merged the two sites together, kind of.

Basically what I have done is connected the backends of both and rejigged the code of the writing site. What this means is that I can post an entry here and then, if it is actually a writing entry, click a button and push it to the other site as well. Same goes for editing entries on that site, handling the comments, all that good stuff.

Of course I say all this now with great big ideas in my head but I give it about a week before I post nothing again :D
